How long have you been in your industry?12 years
Why did you choose your industry?I’ve always seen myself as a born teacher and feel incredibly fortunate to have received a strong public education. From an early age, I knew I wanted to teach. After 11 years in the classroom, I joined Teach Play Learn to support students and families on a more personalized level. I truly love what I do and am passionate about ensuring every student thrives in their learning environment.
Who are your typical clients? Our clients are families seeking support because their child is facing challenges in school for various reasons. Whether they need academic tutoring, educational therapy, or are transitioning to a new learning environment, we’re here to guide them every step of the way. Many families come to us for homeschooling support, admissions consulting, or help navigating a learning disability diagnosis.
What do you like best about being in this industry? My favorite part of my work with TPL is witnessing students grow, gain confidence, and rediscover their love of learning. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a child light up with excitement when something finally clicks. Challenges may sometimes feel like immovable boulders, but with the right support, strategies, and encouragement, they can always be shifted—one step at a time.
What are common problems you see?Parents often feel overwhelmed by the ever-evolving education system. From navigating "new math" to worrying about test scores or the rising cost of college, the landscape of schooling has changed drastically over the past 20 years. With so many choices and challenges, families need the guidance of experienced educators to help them find the best path for their child’s success.
What advice/tips do you have for clients? You are not alone! We understand that education and schools look very different now than your childhood. We are on your side and always rooting for you. Additionally, if we are not the best fit for you we will work diligently to connect you to the best option. Keep an open mind and an open heart. Your child's education is sacred, we'll do whatever we can to ensure it's the best it can be.
When is your busy season?Fall, right around October. The newness of the school year has worn off and if issues arise, this is the time. Additionally, we are busy during admissions season from December-March.
What keeps you up at night? The rising cost of a college education. It's unsustainable long term. It worries me that we are pricing families out of a college degree, and saddling students with thousands of dollars in student debt.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? Our team consists of experienced educators with decades of expertise across various school settings. We take pride in our work and actively engage on social media, seeking to connect and collaborate with like-minded organizations.
How involved are you in the community?I am a dog lover, and I volunteer with animal rescue organizations. Additionally, I'm a military spouse and enjoy supporting service members and their families.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity? My family supports the ASPCA, Love Like A Mother, and The Wounded Warrior Project
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Lead with curiosity when meeting with new families.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Spending time with my sons, 6 and 2. Trying new restaurants with my husband, walking my dog, and going anywhere WARM.
